Why travel agency turista is expanding into Australia
Travellers in Australia are bracing for more travel agencies in the coming years.
The agency, based in Sydney, is looking to open more branches in the region.
In 2017 it expanded into New South Wales and Queensland, as well as into Western Australia.
The company’s head of business development, James Taylor, says the growth is about more of a “brand shift” and the company is keen to expand beyond Australia.
“We’re definitely looking at new markets around the world and Australia is definitely one of those places where we’re excited to see more of the company,” Mr Taylor said.
“Our first local expansion is in Sydney.
We’ve got about five more to come over the next year.”
Travel agency turistas main business model is online booking with the aim of getting people out of their homes and onto their flights.
The aim is to reduce travel time by up to 10 per cent and improve air quality by improving the flow of air.
Travel agency Turista has been working in Sydney since the 1990s.
Mr Taylor says the business is about “bringing people to the table and bringing people out”.
“It’s the opposite of what the rest of the industry does, which is just getting them to go out and buy a ticket and then driving them home,” he said.
He says it is not a business about making money, but about making people feel like they are part of the journey.
“If you think about the journey, it’s really about connecting people with the things they love, connecting them with the places they love,” he explained.
“It is all about connecting them to each other.”
Mr Taylor believes Australia will be one of the first countries to see “an exponential growth in the number of travel agents” after the arrival of the technology that will allow people to book travel.
“For some reason, Australia is really in a period of change, with a lot of new technologies, particularly with social media and things like that,” he told ABC Radio Sydney.
Mr Turista was founded in 1989 by Michael Taffin and David Turista. “
And we will, because this is the future.”

The business has expanded from four offices in Sydney to more than 30 in the past decade.
The new headquarters, which was built in 2020, has become the hub of Turista’s Sydney operations.
Turista is an independent travel agency with a strong focus on the customer.
The firm has a long-term plan to grow in the Sydney market and plans to expand its presence in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
The Turista team has grown from four people to more then 70, with the group now operating in 40 cities and operating in more than 200 cities.
Turistas website says the company’s aim is “to create a new standard for travel and entertainment experiences”.
