Which U.S. travel agency is hiring the biggest hires this summer?
Vacation rentals and travel agencies are looking to boost their numbers and hiring in the coming months, and in some cases they may not be the only ones.
Travel agents are hiring, and are hiring faster than ever, as they seek to compete for the same clientele, said Mike Johnson, president and CEO of the Travel Industry Association.
He cited a spike in new openings last summer, with some travel agencies hiring about twice as many staff as the year before.
“It’s a real trend,” Johnson said.
“In the last year or so, we’ve seen the number of new hires jump from 10 to 12, and we’re in the third year in a row with over 100 new hires.”
Johnson said travel agencies have begun to attract more young professionals, many of whom have children, to the industry, which is attracting older workers who may have been previously away from their families.
The average age of travel agents in the U.K. is 30, Johnson said, and he said he doesn’t see any reason to think that trend will reverse anytime soon.
Travel agencies in the United States are seeing an uptick in hiring, but Johnson said he’s not seeing any significant impact from new hires.
“I think the industry is going to see some additional growth in the near future,” he said.
Johnson said the travel industry is also seeing a rise in the number and number of travel agencies working in a single city.
